AI in interior design
In today's digital landscape, artificial intelligence (AI) has been transforming many industries across the board. The interior design world is no exception. A recent study by Planner 5D reveals that a staggering 85.4% of people are now using AI to design their homes, with 29.7% incorporating it into their weekly routine.
Driven by the desire for personalized designs at the click of a button and the convenience of AI-powered tools, people are increasingly turning to technology to transform their living spaces. Planner 5D understands this shift and addresses those needs with its innovative tools and user-centric design.
AI interior design tools and functionality
While ChatGPT may be the go-to AI tool for many, when it comes to interior design, Planner 5D reigns supreme. A whopping 84% of users prefer Planner 5D over other popular AI platforms for their home design projects.
The primary areas where people leverage AI in their interior design endeavors include 3D visualization and rendering (61.2%), followed by space planning and optimization (51.2%). However, one of the biggest challenges they face is the perceived limitation of AI's understanding of personal style.
There is a growing demand for AI design tools to generate suggestions based on desired emotional responses in a space (e.g., calm, energized, or inspired) to address this.
A significant majority (79.7%) of people are open to this idea. Additionally, 74% would be willing to share background information and cultural preferences to enhance the AI's design recommendations.
By understanding the emotional aspect of design elements, AI can help create spaces that look good and function well, promoting productivity, relaxation, and overall comfort.
What's next for AI in interior design
The future of AI in interior design is bright. Over two-thirds (73%) of people indicate that they would use AI design tools more frequently if they could integrate them with existing personal AI assistants, like Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. This would enable them to provide design preferences verbally and receive real-time feedback or suggestions from the AI tool.
Overall, AI’s impact on the industry is undeniable. Over half (51.8%) believe AI technology empowers interior designers with new tools. They appreciate how it enables non-professional users to create designs in seconds.
