Definition and characteristics

Loft word means attic, top floor of a factory or mansard. In the loft interior we notice a lot of manufactory elements such as open metal pipes, high ceilings, brick walls or cement floors. And indeed this style came along when enterprises were forced to move to suburbs and sold their factories for low prices.

In the loft interior you can easily notice how huge the space is. Seeing all room corners and all rooms open except bathroom, bedroom and utility rooms are isolated. Windows are always wide and open letting natural light fill the room.

Main characteristic of the loft:

  • Open layout. With minimal internal walls.
  • High ceiling and windows.
  • Stairs. As the ceiling is high mostly it is possible to add a second open floor.
  • Functional furniture
  • Rough wall finishes and light tones. It is casual to find brick or cement walls. However, the colours of furniture are light enough to not absorb any light coming from wide windows to let the room be filled with natural light and reflect it from details.

One of the most beautiful loft interiors is found in our gallery too. Not let’s take a look what our user created.

Overall view of the loft interior looks amazing. Rough wall finishes, light colours and plenty of space for any activity. Wooden ceiling elements, wide open windows remind us that in old times this was a factory once it became cozy homes. Black is used as the main accent detail for objects which contain metal, ceiling lights, vases, window frames or stair handrails and chairs. Leather is one of the natural materials usually used in industrial interiors for sofas or chairs. It adds elements of vintage feeling and nicely combines together with natural wood.

Living room, dining area and kitchen are three different spaces which are connected together but have a feeling of separateness. Next to a window is the perfect spot to take a seat and relax after a long day at work. Neutral tones with natural leather gives us a feeling of luxurious. High ceiling above our heads let’s us feel free without any pressure or

From the first look, the kitchen can look small, but if you walk in there you notice that it is placed in a perfect spot. It’s not too big and not too small, perfectly organized in it’s own way. In here you can find everything you need from sink and cabins to cooker. While cooking you can chat with your friend on a sofa or look through the beautiful view from wide windows. Have you noticed ? The designer didn’t leave any space left unused, the space which is found under stairs were perfectly organized for house plants. They let us create the feeling of a small jungle under stairs adding harmony for the home.

Moving up to the bedroom in front of us we find a mirror with an old dresser and a bird case which adds a nice industrial touch to the room.  Walls are rough and require some decorations to make them look softer. Painting, led lights and wall lighting next to a bed makes walls look softer and not so empty. Wooden floor makes our feet feel nice and comfortable, and the rug doesn’t let them be cold from an early morning coldness. One seat makes a perfect place for reading books, relaxing and gazing through open windows from above.

By going down the stairs we can always slow down and just sit on them chatting with guests. In a loft there is plenty of space for everything. And from one corner you can see other corners, no matter where you are.

In conclusion a little loft is a harmonious and spacious home for artists and the one who wants to relax in their own way. Surrounded by vintage elements, plants and natural materials such as wood, linear or leather. Here your creativity can be endless.
