A Guest Lodge by CARLO Berlin

The design of this guest apartment was born from an exceptional request: the owners wanted a space where the sensations and memories of their favorite trips were the cornerstone of the design and could be sensed by their guests. Thus, the CARLO Berlin studio—of architect and designer Charlotte Wiessner— found inspiration in the calm feeling of days spent in the Swiss Alps or surfing vacations on the Atlantic coast in northern Spain.

CARLO Berlin, after all, is a studio that prides itself on finding its clients' personalities and understanding what they are looking for. That is why these interiors are a true reflection of their owners.

Vacation style activated

In the daytime space, two very different environments reflect those vacation sensations in two equally diverse ways. First, a mural by artist Anna Talens behind the dining table incorporates the waves of the Atlantic with fresh tones that contrast with the bright woodwork of the cabinets and a bench. Second, the ceiling over the living area incorporates delicate panels reminiscent of an authentic cabin in the countryside.

In the office, a second mural evokes the shapes of the Alpine mountains, which are superimposed in attractive warm tones. The unusual use of fresh and warm colors throughout the interior is combined with organic woods and stones. The elegant metallic details give the project a refined balance between relaxation and elegance. Undoubtedly, it is the perfect retreat in a cosmopolitan city like Berlin.

Shapes and materials

The organic finishes are the real star of this project. The different woods, textiles and natural fibers give the interior that holiday feel. The organic shapes of the furniture and architecture accentuate this natural character of the materials. The curved lines of the kitchen furniture, the dining room table, the desk in the study or even the door openings play into this design.

All of these elements give this interior an attractive fluidity, perfect for a guest space. What could be better than enjoying a stay in this relaxed apartment?

The details

Details are everything when it comes to making a space a proper home. Thus, the designer for this project choose the decoration items with special care. A small limestone table at the foot of the sofa, a selection of sculptural vases or a tray with artichokes give life to the daytime environments (living room, dining room and kitchen). The lamps combine organic materials—such as fabrics or papers—with metallic details in gold and copper, replicating the finishes of Zazzeri taps.

In the bathrooms, there are open shelves and vases filled with twigs. These details are carefully chosen to complement each space and its peculiarities. A powder pink color dominates the area on the walls and ceilings in one of the bathrooms. Copper-colored profiles and taps perfectly complement it. The second bathroom features sage green, which provides a calm and relaxing feel, making it the perfect choice for this guest apartment. Zazzeri's copper finishes add interest to the space dominated by green.

And how can you overlook the spectacular bedroom closet? A geometric print tapestry covers the doors of the built-in furniture, adding interest to the entire room.

Bring this inspiration to your home

There is no doubt that this design project is fresh and modern while refined and timeless at the same time. Neutral tones and natural materials are combined with color accents and bold prints, elevating interior decor with a luxurious yet fun look.

Don't hesitate to add color to replicate this effect in your home. Go for a mural that gives a unique tone to any room, or take a risk with an unexpected fabric. Make sure that each room is unique but that all the spaces fit together as if they were part of a surprising puzzle. But, above all, opt for natural materials and quality finishes, which will give your interior tactility and interest.
