This open plan kitchen combined with living area creates a warm and exciting atmosphere perfect for cooking, lounging, and entertaining all at once. The brick accent wall creates more interest and helps guide your eyes towards the wall-sized painting to create emphasis. The main color scheme is a mix of contrasting greens and reds with mostly darker woods thrown in. The two carpets on the floor are positioned like the Chinese Ying and Yang, representing harmony and balance between the two spaces. The two rugs also create movement that guides the viewers eyes easily from one space to another. The two spaces, kitchen and living, are clearly separate but are still open and easy to connect. The living room seating area forgoes a traditional couch. Instead, I opted for lots of chairs so that the seating area can be effortlessly reconfigured. Having a variety of different seating options creates more balance within the space because they can be placed evenly throughout different parts of it. The varying shapes and colors also make it look more interesting. The two separate zones of the kitchen and living room easily flow into one another. In addition to the kitchen and living area, there is an additional green room behind the partition which can also double as an entryway to the kitchen. The green room has plenty of storage, some extra seating, and plenty of space to grow some herbs to be used in the kitchen. The circular lighting, chairs, tables, and painting create rhythm and repetition throughout the space. The style of the space is both casual and luxury. The texture from the curtains and plant pots are very luxurious while the seating arrangement is more casual. These two contrasting styles still share similarities within the space such as color and shape. The hidden green room is an unexpected touch but still feels luxurious and connected to the space because of its convenience. Functionality is key to making the space feel more laid-back while the texture from the brick wall, unusual flooring, and fun shapes create a feeling of luxury. This idea of harmony show that by having a balance of variety, the space actually becomes more unified and cohesive.
