Designer tips
Draw the chairs pulled out
When testing a table position, mark the chairs in use rather than tucked underneath. Walk behind someone seated and check access to the sideboard before settling on the arrangement.
Center the light on the table
Choose the table position before the final pendant position. A light centered on the room can look misplaced when the table must sit off to one side for circulation.
A rug includes the moving chair
Pull a chair back as you would to stand up. Its legs should not drop off the rug edge; test that movement rather than choosing a rug only by how it looks under the table.
