What’s the most Christmassy house you can think of? The house from ‘Home Alone’ has to be it. With its warm 90s’ wooden furniture, bright colors and printed wallpaper, it’s the ultimate nostalgic Christmas film. And now you can recreate it on Planner 5D!

What you put inside is up to you! Perhaps you want to recreate the interior from the film, covered in reds and greens and Christmas cheer, or maybe you’ll bring it up to date. About the house
The house itself was built in 1920. It’s a symmetrical, red brick, Georgian building, with a classical look. Make sure you don’t miss the large, white-framed windows with their gorgeous shutters, and the huge lawn. “Only the front and back part of the house are shown in the movie,” says Evelina, “Harry and Marv (the burglars) come in through them.”
Although we won’t show you the interior in this tutorial, it’s worth considering what you might include. There’s an enormous 4200 square feet (390 square metres) to fill! In the film, the home was full of flowery furniture and bold printed patterns. It was also decorated with an overwhelming amount of Christmas décor. Above all, it’s important to notice that the house’s furniture was entirely green and red. If this house were a person, it would be Santa Claus.

The colors are much more subdued, the kitchen is open plan, and the furniture is arguably more tasteful. Of course, the iconic staircase is still there!
How to create it in Planner 5D
The Technical Process
Evelina’s first step was to remember her favorite moments from the film. “I started from the first floor, then the second. After that, I made windows, doors, and other details. Finally, I did the back doors. The house is made from bricks, so I added the texture from Planner’s catalogue. You can also use your own.”
Features
“To decorate the door, I used the clock from the catalog. I changed the size and texture.
I used the magic cube to design the windows.
To add lights to the bushes, I hid a Christmas tree in them.
I also made the snow from a bathrobe! I changed the texture and stretched it.”
Challenges
“It was quite hard to find an element for the door decoration. The easiest thing was probably making the two floors, as the house is symmetrical. It was interesting to create the whole project, as I’ve been watching this movie for so many years, but never paid attention to some of the details in the house.”

- How much the ‘Home Alone’ house would cost. The last time the house was sold, the asking price was $2.4 million. In the end, it sold for $1.585 million. According to some sources, it would reach about $1.9 million these days.
- The snow in the film was partly real and partly fake. And what did they use for pretend snow? Flakes of potato. Beautiful… until the real snow melted and the potato rotted - we’re glad we missed the smell.
- Although the treehouse is part of an iconic scene, sadly it was only built for the purposes of the film, and was taken down afterwards. The director said that it didn’t seem too safe!
